Read ahead for more info and upcoming shows from Compression.

The secular soulful sounds of Compression’s 58th milestone installment will hit you via Southern California’s only mobile Funktion One sound system, a recent and permanent companion to Compression’s parties that coincides with its birthday celebrations.

The birthday celebration comes hot on the heels of a wildly successful six weeks for Compression. Nine parties in just over a month featuring some of the world’s top musical talents including Josh Wink, Jay Haze, Adam Beyer & Joel Mull, Bill Patrick & Lee Burridge, an LA debut appearance from GUMMIHZ of Mobilee Records and Acid Circus. 2008 was a seminal year for Compression, which, in response to popular demand, saw the party increase in frequency and expand to include shows at the larger capacity Hollywood venue CineSpace.

Compression also launched its six-hour label and DJ showcase, Compression Expansion. Compression Expansion provides labels and DJs with a rare opportunity to showcase their history, tradition and diversity of talent over an extended six hour session in Los Angeles. The groundbreaking series has already attracted the likes of Richie Hawtin/Minus, Josh Wink, Steve Bug/Pokerflat, Cobblestone Jazz/Wagon Repair, Drumcode and the legendary Robert Hood.
Upcoming Compression Expansion nights are lined up with Revolver Records with Mike Shannon and Jeff Milligan (2/13/09) and Dirtybird Records with Christian Martin and J Phlip (2/27/09).

Compression was first formed in November 2005 by long-time dance music tastemaker, publisher and radio personality, Robtronik, as a reaction to the closed minded, all-too-similar attitude of many existing LA parties. Robtronik (aka Robert Pointer) strived to create an intimate party that celebrated a more culturally expressive sound still capable of moving a Hollywood dancefloor. Compression quickly lived up to its underlying principles, presenting the soulful roots of dance music, by booking the famed Belleville Three (Atkins, Saunderson, & May) within six months of opening and installing LA’s John Tejada as a recurring guest.

The founding tenets of the Compression brand continued to be expounded over the following three years – world class DJs and maximal sound quality in the heart of Hollywood – illustrated by the recent usage of the Funktion One sound system. Furthering the growth of the Compression brand are long-standing members Andre Ezer, director of artist relations, and Matt Xavier, who together with Robtronik, founder and managing director, play as Compression’s resident DJs.

All told Compression has presented 57 events since its inception, debuting in Los Angeles some of the most influential artists in dance music. Aside from the Belleville Three, performances have included Matthew Dear aka Audion, Richie Hawtin, Mathew Jonson & Cobblestone Jazz, Steve Bug, and more.
