What can we say we’re addicted to the emotional high of video games. Not in a World of Warcraft psychological disorder kinda way—but we do enjoy a shot of dopamine from time to time. And we like how Tetris makes us see the shapes when we close our eyes after playing for hours. So without further ado, here’s our list of titles coming out around the holiday time we’re looking forward to becoming extremely brilliant on.
See our list after the jump….
Midnight Club Los Angeles (Xbox 360, PS3 – Rockstar)
Choose from over 40 sick rides and burn rubber on the streets of an amazingly rendered LA while evading the fuzz. It’s like GTA without getting out of the car, and the pedestrians always (sadly) manage to get out of the way.
Guitar Hero World Tour (Xbox 360, PS3 – Neversoft/Activision/Red Octane)
Hardcore and casual gamers come together again for more rocking. Now with drums, vocals, an online battle of the bands and a music studio feature to create your own tracks.
Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360 – Epic Games/Microsoft)
Epic sets out to make everything better for its follow-up to the 2006 third-person-shooter that sold nearly five million copies. More blood, more bullets, creepier bosses…happy holidays!
SingStar (PS3 – SCEA)
Yet another really good reason to sit in front of the TV and act a fool—or prove once and for all you really are a rockstar. You can access hundreds of downloadable songs, including videos, via the PS3 online SingStore. Sounds like lots of hours are about to be wasted.
Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PS3 – Bethesda Softworks)
Blast mutants with homemade weapons in a post-apocalyptic Washington, DC. Increase your good karma by helping out fellow citizens…or get down with your bad self and kill everything.
Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii – Harmonix/MTV Games)
Harmonix says they’ll have over 500 songs available for the Rock Band franchise by the end of 2008. With this much content it might be time to bite the bullet and buy Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2.
Shaun White Snowboarding (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii – Ubisoft)
The Olympic and X Games gold medalist gets his own game where players slide down the slopes of faithfully reproduced mountains. The physics are slightly more realistic than in other action sports games, so try not to break your face.
Bionic Commando (Xbox 360, PS3 – GRIN/Capcom)
A sequel to the 1988 NES classic goes 3-D with heaps of grappling-hook action and Mike Patton (Faith No More) as the voice of Nathan “Rad” Spencer. Did I mention that Rad’s nemesis is a dude called Super Joe? Awesome!
LittleBigPlanet (PS3 – Media Molecule/Sony Computer Entertainment)
This unique platform pits a cutesy burlap sack doll against a malleable world full of weird challenges. Design your own levels or test out others posted on the PlayStation Network.
Star Wars: Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels (Wii – Krome Studios/LucasArts)
If the Wiimote was designed for anything, it’s for flailing wildly around the room like the Star Wars Kid. Developed exclusively for the Wii, we probably won’t be seeing lightsabers removing any arms.
