I get a bit of road rage now and then—according to my girlfriend. Just about everyday on my way to and from work I feel like killing some idiot suffering from head up ass disease. What is it about LA and the lack of left-handed turn singles at traffic lights? It’s like the city planner was smoking crack… or had some sort of bias against motorist wanting to make left-handed turns. It’s nuts. Of all the crappy things about living in Los Angeles this has to be in the top 5. Seriously. You get about 2—maybe 3—cars through the intersection before the light turns red. And that’s if everyone is paying attention. Sadly, most of the drivers around here somehow fail to grasp that there are others actually on the road. Perhaps that or they’re not capable of talking on the cell phone and driving at the same time. Either way, sharing the road with stupid people is a common occurrence in LA.

Hopefully now that California has joined the ranks with Connecticut, the District of Columbia, New Jersey and New York banning the use of cell phones while driving things will get better. I never thought I’d be a hands-free cell phone guy, but now I must. I accumulate enough parking ticket fees for any one man—I definitely don’t need to add $20 for a first cell phone while driving offense and $50 for each subsequent offense to my list of debt. So…I picked up the Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth earpiece and must admit I like it—a lot. For one, it looks much nicer than any other hands-free device I’ve seen. No one wants to look like a tool. Aesthetic aside, the noise reduction technology (removing background noise while simultaneously adjusting the incoming volume) makes hearing conversations a breeze. Even with the windows down. The device comes in either Onyx Black, Alchemy Gold and Cerise Pink and includes a matching, soft carrying case that recharges and stores the earpiece. The literature says it supports up to five hours of talk time, which I believe since I’ve yet to run out of juice while driving. Cost is around $149.99.
