Marvin Gaye’s criminally-underrated 1978 masterpiece, Here, My Dear gets a long-overdue reissue courtesy of this expanded, double-disc remastered edition.
“Anna’s Song”
The riveting set painfully documents the iconic soul visionary’s bitter divorce from wife Anna Gordy (sister of Motown founder Berry Gordy) and features some of Marvin’s most arresting, brutally candid and devastatingly tender compositions including the redemptive “Anna’s Song,” “Anger” and cosmic dancefloor workouts “A Funky Space Reincarnation” and “You Can Leave, But It’s Going to Cost You.” Though largely ignored upon its initial release, the stirring suite of romantic testimonials, bitter reprisals and sobering revelations has since become widely regarded as one of the Motown legend’s most evocative and sublime collections (alongside landmarks Let’s Get It On and What’s Going On). This deluxe digipak assembles the remastered original album with a second disc offering an alternate sequence of reworks from contemporary heavyweights like the Roots and Prince Paul, made entirely from Gaye’s demo vocals and unused instrumental tracks.
