Last year, I heard rumors flying that Live Nation (the leading concert promotion company) and Ticketmaster (the leading ticket selling company) are merging together as one. Those rumors are now true due to the Justice Dept. giving this merger their blessing this past Monday. The Live Nation- Ticketmaster merger will now be called “Live Nation Entertainment” .

My first thought that came to mind is that Live Nation will now monopolize ticket sales and I was wondering how AEG live, which is their huge competitor (they own 100 huge venues including the Staples Center and Nokia) , felt about it. Although the Justice department approved the Live Nation Entertainment agreement, under that agreement, Ticketmaster must give give AEG their own ticketing service. We’ll see how that goes.
