Our friend Paul was able to get his hands on a prototype of the Enlighten case for the Kindle 2. The Enlighten is a new product by Case-Mate that hasn’t come out in stores yet that is equipped with a light for easier reading at night. Paul was able to try it out with his Kindle 2 and here’s what he has to say.
Review and pictures after the jump…
Many Kindle readers will enjoy case-mate’s leather cover that is used for Kindles. Built with sturdy, thick leather, it protects the Kindle from daily wear and tear.
The light- screen provides more than enough lighting when there isn’t any, and allows some readers to occasionally dispense with their reading glasses. Because of the case’s durable design and the adaptability the light screen provides, it makes any Kindle a better traveling companion.
The case, however, has some drawbacks. The thick leather and the light screen apparatus make it more like an actual book than a Kindle. The sleek, light-weight design of the naked Kindle is gone, which, for some people, is the most attractive part of the Kindle.
The button the case provides for the previous page function is hit and miss at best. A lot of the time, I had to adjust the light-screen just for the button to connect properly. Almost as often, I just flipped the screen, and directly pressed the Kindle’s button.
I never minded carrying a book around, so I appreciate the case’s protective qualities. However, the previous page button is annoying, as it interferes with the easy navigation my Kindle otherwise provides.
