On Saturday night, I attended the Kill Pixie art opening reception party for his solo exhibition at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery on LaBrea Ave. The opening art party was hosted by Tim Roth and the gallery exhibition also shows a collaboration with the band Autolux. The gallery was jam pack with a bright and very stylish crowd. I walked along the gallery looking at his different geometric fun paintings and installation as I took a sip of my champagne Bellini. I loved the humorous characters that appears in his work and the choice of colors he uses, which results you to be so drawn to his work. I like his idea of “giving the impression of a kaleidoscope opening up into ever more intricate worlds.” Kill Pixie (AKA Mark Whalen) started his career as a graffiti artist in Australia and now resides in Los Angeles. His work is “mostly ink and acrylic on paper mounted to wood, and coated in shiny resin.”
I have a good feeling that this is not the last we’ll see of Kill Pixie and saying that I’m excited to see what’s next from him would be a total understatement.
