Effortless. It’s the only way to describe the ease at which Lisa Shaw’s sultry, soulful vocals glide and caress all over this album. Take, for example, her graceful, lounge tunes such as “I’m Okay” and the unique reggae/dub/downtempo vibes of “Inside my Love.” Lisa paired up with Dave Warrin to write and produce Free, together with guest producers Miguel Migs, Ethan White of Tortured Soul and Tim Kvasnosky. There’s a gradual, mellow R&B/acid jazz comfort zone in the opener, “Better Days,” but on “Find A Way,” Lisa gets down to business with the first house track to reveal itself among the album’s 13 songs, gently picking up the pace on one of the sexiest cuts in the lineup. Funk-filled, electro vibrations seep through your speakers as streaks of synth-laden harmonies overflow on “Like I Want To,” making you know that you’ve just arrived at the red carpet entrance to Lisa’s nightclub experience. Don’t be afraid—just enter—with your only risk being setting your soul on fire before it’s free to rightfully dance with sweet, reckless abandon. (Marlon Regis)
