What quote best describes your philosophy on life? “Why so serious?” (Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight) What’s new in your world? We recently completed a bunch of remixes: “Circus” by Britney Spears, “Get Buck In Here” by Felli Fel (which features P Diddy, Akon, Ludacris, and Lil Jon), “Little Bit” by Lykke Li, “Whatchadoin” by N.A.S.A. (which features M.I.A., Santogold and Spankrock) and “Ares” by Bloc Party. As far as our original production, we recently released our first EP, which has the first three tracks that we ever made. We called it the “Birth” EP because those were the first songs we every really created together as Villains. We are in the process of wrapping up our next EP, which will have some very special guest vocalists on it. And, we are also working on original production for some very big artists that we can’t really talk too much about just yet. Really dope tunes that will be hitting the mainstream world but the underground fans will be able to appreciate. We are continuing to DJ all over North America. We will be on the road with Steed Lord for a short US tour that will stop in Austin for SXSW and Miami for WMC. Then, we are looking forward to getting down to Australia in May and then Europe later on in the summer. What’s behind the moniker? We have always tended to be anti-establishment and rebellious when it comes to the music we appreciate and especially the music that we make. The image of the villain is always dark, mysterious and sneaky. It’s a character that doesn’t take things at face value and opts to go out and get shit done in their own way and on their own terms. Something you should probably know about us: We have only just begun. And about the music we make: We put all the experience and knowledge we have about electronic music behind everything we do. There are never any shortcuts or “half-assing” shit. When we sit down to do a track, we make it like it’s the only one we are ever going to make in our lives and it becomes a part of us. That’s why we don’t just put out track after track like we are in some kind of race. We want everything to be perfect. Proudest accomplishment? Hearing our remix of “Get Buck In Here” on the radio (Power 106). We felt like we were able to take something that was straight-up mainstream, put it through the Villains club treatment, and still keep it pop enough to get played on the radio. It was like stealing a wallet, putting mad money into it and slipping it right back into the pocket of the person we stole it from. Other than music what else gets you guys excited? We are both into art, design and fashion. Top LA DJ moment? That would probably have to be playing at Electric Daisy Carnival last summer. It was massive! The crowd ended up being the largest gathering of people for a “legitimate rave” in LA history. There were people everywhere and just being in front of a crowd that huge was an experience in itself. The energy coming back from the crowd was unlike anything we’ve ever felt. The guys who threw that are also bringing back Audiotistic this year and we will be on the bill for that.
