NRK’s new mix series, The Lab, is geared to stand on solid ground just as the Coast 2 Coast and Back In The Box installations have done in the past. This mix is gifted upon us from the hands of Loco Dice, a famed minimal mix master with recent releases on such definitive labels as Minus, Cocoon, Cadenza and Desolate. Using tracks that work well in the car or out on the terrace, this two-hour plus mix includes 27 tracks within two very different discs. The first disc focuses on a darker club atmosphere, showcasing tracks from such hypnotic groove thrillers as Terrance Dixon, Robert Dietz, MHM 1, Damian Schwartz, Someone Else and Alex Flatner. Combining big bass hits, some calypso mixes and dissonant soundscapes, this disc carries the load for a late night dance session. Disc two, however, dives deeper into the house realm, revealing selections from such impressionists as Nick Holder, 95 North, Sascha Dive, Tyree Cooper, Audio Soul Project and Loco Dice himself. While the focus is for the late night or afterhours house athlete, these tracks work well on both the treadmill and the freeway. (Praxis)
