What quote best describes your philosophy on life? “I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been.” (Ursula 1000) What’s new in your world? My new album, Mystics, is out now. I’m super happy the way it came out. It’s further away from some of the retro ’60s leanings of my first two records. I started flirting with some glam rock ideas, some punk-funk-electro and with this one, the beats are harder, probably influenced more from my DJ sets over the past few years. Elements of mythology and cosmic imagery have also entered the picture. Plus the songs are more fully structured with full-on vocals, which is new for me. The live instrumentation really projects more on Mystics…guitars, bass, synths scream louder than before. It’s a neverending journey and this is just the next chapter. I have some killer remixes being done for some of the tracks by the likes of HiJack, DJ Ayres, All Good Funk Alliance and Zombi, to name a few. I’ll be touring in Europe in March into late April and then hitting the States in May. What’s behind the moniker, what does it mean? Something silly conjured from the ’60s sex kitten actress Ursula Andress and products from the ’50s and ’60s that had end tags like 500 or 1000 or XL. Pure nonsense. Something you should probably know about me: I love Chihuahuas, comics, Negroni cocktails and have a sick glam rock record collection. And about the music I make: I see myself as a pop culture beacon and I try to channel all the stuff that turns me on and try to turn it inside out as something new to shake your ass too. Biggest misconception about being a DJ? That it’s not a real method of performance. I come from a traditional live music background so I can see how some people may not fully understand it but it’s a performance. Other than music, what else gets you excited? I love traveling, eating new cuisines and re-discovering new or lost genres of music. Oh, and snuggling with my wife and dog while watching Seinfeld reruns. APT for seven years now; what’s the secret to your success? APT has managed to not cheese out like the rest of the Meatpacking District area in the West Village and maintains a strict standard of quality music. Hopefully I’ve added something these past seven years. What gets you excited about living in NYC right now? There’s nothing quite like living here. Not having to own a car, fabulous food at all hours. The obvious mix of cultures is a no-brainer for constant influences. Brooklyn (where I’ve lived for over a decade) has a magic that’s got a hold on me and I actually find myself partying more in the 718 than the 212 nowadays. I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been.
