Who is this guy? :MarsallBarnes: is out five nights of the week holding things down at all hyped LA clubs—Coco De Ville, Hyde, Foxtail and My House—and racking up frequent flyer miles on Fridays and Saturdays. He recently scored a spot on the Coachella lineup. Talk about good news. That’s why we just had to say, ahhhh, when he told us about the day he found out—it literally put tears in kid’s eyes. “Who” is a good question right now, but we don’t think you’ll be asking for long, especially since he keeps hustling his way up the who’s who ladder of DJs to watch.
What’s it like trying to come up as a DJ in this town? Hard. I feel people are always trying to undercut one another. Pull you down. I’m just thankful I had good mentors. I still get hated on a lot and it used to bug me, a lot, but now I just see it as part of the game and I should just enjoy the haters…one day it will be all over and that’s when it will hurt most. So I smile when my name is just mentioned—positive or negative.
What makes you different than other DJs? I not sure…I guess the people will have to make that choice. I just try and make everyone have a good time. Yes, most DJs play the same songs, but I feel it’s the way you play them and the timing of when you play them. I try my hardest to read the crowd. Harmonizing is one another thing I work on doing. Taking two songs that have similar sounds and putting them together to make one. I try and stay away from things other DJs do but it’s hard when everyone wants to hear the same song.
