What movie or song quote best describes your philosophy on life? “These go to eleven.” (Spinal Tap) What’s new in your world? We have just been awarded “Best Live Act” and “Best Album” at the 2009 Irish Dance Music Awards! We are absolutely over the moon as the competition is quite fierce! We have a few remixes that are about to come out, one of them is a major remix for a iconic ’80s band but we can’t say any more! Our Beyoncé remix of “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” is hitting this month also, which has already had some early supporters like Pete Tong, Benny Benassi and Groove Armada. We are currently planning to hit the USA for some live shows—we have hooked up with AM Only as our US agent and they have started the ball rolling to get us out to tour America. We can’t wait!! We are also in the middle of writing our second album. Hopefully a September release in the UK and other territories. What’s behind the moniker? We are three Irish guys (ravers from Northern Ireland) that make dance music. One of us even has red hair and freckles. We are the furthest thing from “Japanese Popstars” as you’re going to get! It’s a name that reflects our humor, quirk and also our respect and love of Japan. We wanted something that sounded “big in Japan” but that had already been taken, back in the ’80s, so I thought what else is big In japan and that’s where the Japanese Popstars name came from. Something you should probably know about us: We will be the last ones to leave! They will close the doors of the venue and we are always the last out, even if we are not playing. And about the music we make: We don’t understand the concept of subtlety. We actually felt like a pop stars once when: In Japan we had just traveled from Osaka to Tokyo by bullet train, we then had a one hour journey by coach [bus] that was going to take us straight to our hotel. When we got to the hotel, we checked in as normal and had around 20 minutes to get freshened up so we could go to the venue to soundcheck for our live show. So, we went to our rooms, showered, changed, etc., and went back downstairs. When we got to the lobby a group of Japanese fans were waiting for us with copies of our album to sign! Within these 20 minutes that we had arrived at the hotel and been upstairs, they had arrived specifically to meet us. We were literally only in Tokyo less than two hours; it was very surreal and it made us feel like proper pop stars! What are you looking forward to most when you finally make it the US to play? Every country that we have played in, so far, has a different feel and vibe; experiencing that is one of the best things about being in a band. We have always really wanted to take the show stateside; everyone that we have talked to that has played in America has said it’s great. We can’t wait.
