Dubbed the “unofficial resident” by Banana Split regulars. He has played the legendary Sunday spot more than any other out of town guest—with Pase Rock likely coming in a close second. Guy keeps things heated each time he’s in town. He even got Queen Paris up on a booth screaming all nasty at the crowd. Not that hard to imagine, rather difficult to accomplish. We bet it was one of his remixes that did it…it’s what turned us on to him. We plan on hearing a lot more buzz about DJ Fashen in the future. Phoenix, AZ never sounded so good.

You’ve been playing LA a lot lately. How would you compare things to Phoenix? A lot alike—believe it or not. LA is definitely a few steps ahead on a musical level, but I appreciate how open minded the crowds have been in Phoenix. I have two residencies in Phoenix. Both cater to the “bottle service” crowd. On either night, I have been able to play things that other DJs are afraid to drop. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that that last two years of my career, I have played in LA often, and people in Phoenix want to know what the “new” and cutting-edge stuff is.

What’s behind the name Fashen? I got it from back in the late ’80s early ’90s when I used to stay dipped in Polo and Tommy Hilfiger. Thought about changing it a while back. But lately I’m more focused on branding it.

Talk to me about the music, art, and fashion culture in LA. The Mecca. So many styles and trends are born in LA. Whether it’s people who are born there, or move to, anything is possible in LA. Just look at the street wear explosion in the last few years. LA-based companies like The Hundreds, or Crooks & Castles, have influence. So many DJs, producers, and bands that dominate the music industry, are from LA. And art? Everywhere you look, anything you can think of, from graffiti to fine art, classic or modern, performance or architecture, it can all be found in Los Angeles.

Top LA DJ moment? LAX for Banana Split Sundays. I was DJing with Pase Rock, Team Canada, DJ AM, and a plethora of LA DJs were in attendance. It was completely packed, and I just had a flawless set. Crowd was hype and chanting—and Paris Hilton was standing on the booth table, yelling on the microphone how she wanted to “fuck us all.” Parties like that are the reason I DJ.

RIP Banana Split =( , I was there at his top LA dj moment, definately an epic night, I hadn’t been so sad about a place closing its doors since the Masterdome in San Bernadino back in the rave days

  3. I have a video from the Paris Hilton movie on my website. To bad it got relased onto the net for everyone to look at. She did not want it to be released as it was her ex boyfriend Rick Salomon that leeched it.
