Twenty-one years after the cut ‘n’ paste explosion of “Beat Dis,” Tim Simenon returns with an equally brilliant album. This time he’s paired up with singer and co-producer Paul Conboy, whose deadly smooth, whisper-in-your-ear vocals are the perfect match for a stripped-down aesthetic revolving around Mini-Moog burbles and actual songs. A few cuts seem unremarkable (“No Bones,” “Hold Me Up”) but they are overwhelmed by tracks that are spare yet completely memorable.http://www.bpmmagazine.net/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=2974&type=image&TB_iframe=true&width=640&height=717
Butterfingers
From the stately progression of “So Special” with its icy synths and one-two-one-two bassline, to Mark Lanegan’s (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age) haunting guest vocals on “Black River,” to the headlong, hectic acid static of “Fuzz Box” which closes everything down, Future Chaos is stunning, almost perfect in its elegant impact.
