Some DJs develop their followings through singular residencies, others through global stops. Behrouz has done both. His self-titled “Pure” events across the world have brought the inimitable DJ’s style to the masses. The double disc of the same name goes a long way in accurately reproducing that experience. The first half focuses on melodies and more saccharine house sounds that are helped along by instruments such as piano and harmonica.

Included on this disc are a few of Behrouz’s own creations such as “Rich In Paradise,” “Time Travel,” and “Coming Home,” which, in themselves, are excellent representations of this early to midpoint part of an extended evening. The second half makes a progressive turn, going deeper and moodier in its tone. This disc’s job is to take the listener into the heart of Behrouz’s network of sounds. Pure is a successful representation of an entire night’s musical exploration, building, getting into a groove, and peaking. (Lily Moayeri)
