“Howling for Judy” by Jeremy Steig

“Think Twice” by Donald Byrd

Genre: jazz, rare grooves, organic funk.
Sounds like: yesteryear’s hip-hop producers deserve credit for revitalizing these rarities.
Bottom line: Opening is “It’s Your Thing” by Lou Donaldson, which you’ll recognize from Salt-n-Pepa’s reworking of the same title, or Brand Nubian who stole its drums for “Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down.” Another treat is Ronnie Foster’s “Mystic Brew,” which ATCQ mesmerized us with in the summer of 1994, on “Electric Relaxation.”
