Get Ready For A Killer Ride

My set visit to the filming of Death Race is my first Hollywood experience, so you’ll forgive me if I find myself instantly disappointed. I’m a car guy, and like the 1975 film Death Race 2000, this one is loaded with radical machines and mean characters. But while they look totally cool, it’s disappointing to find that the cars don’t actually fire rockets, or flip in the air…or go more than 30 miles an hour. Dead slow, they’re weighed down by tons of steel and gallons of paint.

Jason Statham, on the other hand, is the real deal. After a 20-minute conversation it’s clear he isn’t acting when he plays “bad ass.” And I’m actually looking forward to seeing how they make the Hollywood hype look real on the big screen. (James Tate)
