Quiet Village

Quiet Village’s Silent Movie is anything but quiet or silent. The creation of Joel Martin (aka DJ Zeus) and Matt Edwards (aka Radio Slave), Quiet Village manage to attain that elusive sound where a myriad of influences across eras is incorporated without becoming schizophrenic, but not ending up with one drone throughout either.

“Can’t Be Beat”

The pervasive theme on Silent Movie is that of movie soundtracks, particularly from the ’70s. While free of vocals, the emotive nature of these compositions generates all sorts of reactions, from happiness (“Can’t Be Beat”) to pre-fear anticipation (“Gold Rush”). “Utopia” creates quite a surreal feeling, with fluid guitar plucks, water drops and Japanese-tinged tones. Silent Movie does what soundtracks are supposed to do for films: give them that added dimension of emotion. But it also provides a nice backdrop for a most relaxing hour or so.
