For an artist who once railed against the notion of “reissue, repackage, repackage,” Morrissey’s surely had his fair share of compiled anthologies throughout his solo career (including 1990’s Bona Drag, 1998’s My Early Burglary Years and 2001’s The Best of Morrissey).

Nevertheless, to mark his 20th anniversary and new label deal (with Decca/Universal), the “Mozfather” issues the Greatest Hits collection in three separate packages: a standard jewel box version, a deluxe edition with bonus Live at the Hollywood Bowl disc and a double vinyl LP. The 15-track retrospective assembles many of the alt-rock auteur’s definitive hits, alongside two new recordings (”That’s How People Grow Up” and “All You Need Is Me”). Sadly, the set fails to showcase the full breadth of Moz’s dynamic output, omitting many of his treasured classics (“November Spawned A Monster,” “Tomorrow,” “Now My Heart Is Full” and “Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself”) in favor of entries from his last two studio albums. Perhaps a more encompassing boxed set is long-overdue?
